Directed by Peter Stastny and Lisa Rinzler, 1995, USA
In The House is a triptych of three vignettes written and acted by teenagers at the Bronx Children’s Psychiatric Center in 1995. The film grew out of a workshop with patients at the hospital conducted by Peter Stastny and Lisa Rinzler. Stories about their traumatic experiences and their aspirations came pouring out of these kids, who had been held at the hospital for many months. Donna, Nicholas and Tawana are only three examples out of the many whose stories are lost between the silence of medical records and the stigma placed on them by society. Breaking through the walls of this institution, the film shines a light on the many stories hidden in similar places of so-called help.
